Little Harvard has been participating in Quality Stars NY since 2017.  As a participant, we are required to meet exemplary standards in multiple areas.  The following areas are reviewed, observed, and evaluated by a Quality Stars Improvemnt Specialist:  Curriculum & Instruction, Observartion & Assessment, Staff Qualifications & Experience,  Policies & Procedures, Classroom Environment, Communication, Physical Health & Well Being,  Family Involvement & Support, and Supportive Transitions. We are proud to announce that we are an implementing site for Pyramid Model. What this means is that our team has worked hard to learn new ways and techniques for Positive Behavior Intervention while supporting the social emotional needs of young children. Who we are: 

Little Harvard is a privately owned early childhood daycare and preschool center. We have two locations in Orange County, NY. 

Here at Little Harvard, we believe that it is never too early to start learning! Starting from the infant room, children are engaged in an exciting, hands-on curriculum that inspires children to explore and grow while using their imagination.

Your children will love spending their day with us! We work to maintain an inviting and educational environment that stimulates creativity and imagination.  As part of the New York State Nutrition Program, we provide healthy fresh food for the children.  
 


High-Level Curriculum
At our private preschool, we pride ourselves on a curriculum that is of the highest quality and aligns with with the New York State Next Generation Learning Standards.

Everyday in our classrooms, your child will participate in science, math, literacy, music/movement, art and outdoor play.  We believe in immersing your child in the weekly theme by providing them the means to explore and question with all of their senses.

     
   

Experienced Staff
We have an experienced and well-trained staff with a low turnover rate, allowing your children to develop long-term and meaningful relationships.  Their commitment to the field of education is evident in their classroom management skills, curriculum development, creative room environments and enthusiasm for teaching.  All teachers and teacher assistants have either a degree in Education or are currently working on an educational degree or Child Development Associate Certification (CDA).  Most of our staff are trained in the Pyramid Model. This model focusses on  helping children navigate their social emotional skills appropriately. In addition, all staff are CPR and First Aid trained, and many have their MAT (Medication Administration Training) certification.

 

Founder
The founder, Rhoda Cianco-Uszenski, is committed to the best educational methodologies for children of all ages.  She began her career working with middle and high school students, but ultimately found her love to be with very young children.  Over the last 25 years, she has continued to support the early childhood community by participating in a variety of professional communities: Mid-Hudson Early Childhood Leadership,  Childcare Council of Orange, Quality Stars NY, Pyramid Model Leadership Team, and has presented at numerous early childhood conferences.  She has continued to share her passion for early childhood education with aspiring teachers, as a college professor, teaching Early Childhood Education at Mount Saint Mary College at both the undergraduate and graduate level.

In May of 1998, she opened Little Harvard in New Windsor, NY.  

Due to an increase in demand, we happily opened up our second location in Washingtonville in 2001.
